Mula is an entertaining documentary about the history of the mule and its importance to the west. When California was still a Mexican territory Americans were on the move…headed west. California mules, along with finely trained Vaquero horses were driven twelve hundred miles up the Old Spanish Trail from Los Angeles to Santa Fe and then seven hundred more miles up the Santa Fe Trail to Independence Missouri. These were the first Missouri mules. There was no sturdier, more powerful and reliable means of travel than a mule...mules are tough, intelligent, and easy keepers. In Mula you will learn about many historical events, including spectacular horse and mule raids when a motley crew of thieves raided California ranchos and missions from Monterey to San Diego…they wanted mules…mountain men, Ute Indians, New Mexicans and French Canadians all took part. The Californios called these thieves the Chaguanosos. Today, mule people are just as enthusiastic about their mules as they were in the 1800s.
